Text Box: THE PASTOR’S WORD

The writer of Ecclesiastes penned what is, for me, one of the most honest and memorable passages in the Old Testament. In chapter 3 and verse 1 he says; “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Then he lists a number of things we all know to be part of real life. He lists things like being born, dying, planting, harvesting, killing, healing, weeping, mourning, etc. etc. Check it out. There’s more to the list, and it’s all part of life as it truly is. Yes, in the living of life, there seems to be a season for everything, good and bad, easy and difficult. That’s why faith in God is so important. We don’t have to go through life’s seasons alone. We have our great companion whose presence is always with us and “in whom we live and move and have our being.” This is the God we meet in Christ. The words of the great hymn express it well; “And he walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own, and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.” That’s the life we’re offered, and it’s good for all the seasons of life.
